Morgel and the Adventures at the Forest School

“Isn’t this a splendid morning?” Lehrer Dachs asked the forest goblin Morgel as he drew aside the curtain. “The sun is shining. It’s warm and dry. We can start school again. At last!”

Lehrer Dachs had been awake for hours, barely able to close an eye in his excitement. Half the night he’d sat at his desk, drafting a new map of Morgelwald and preparing for the first lesson. He’d already taken a stroll around Komstkochsteich and paid a visit to Schröder the tawny owl in his lookout atop the magic fir Albasol.

“I couldn’t agree more. It’s enchanting weather out there. Let’s set off a little earlier. I’m sure the young animals have already gathered in the schoolyard,” replied Morgel.

The Lehrer Dachs slipped into his blue waistcoat, tucked a brown satchel beneath his arm, and hung his monocle around his neck. Morgel seized the map, and together they made their way to the forest school.

The first day of school
“Six first-year pupils are having their school introduction today, and two animal children want to attend for a second year. So eight in total,” the goblin explained.

“Well then, let’s see if everyone has truly arrived,” Lehrer Dachs said eagerly. “Just yesterday I slipped away to hide some tasty treats for our ABC scholars around the forest school.”

Sure enough, all the little creatures have already gathered on the schoolyard beneath the Great Oak, accompanied by their parents. There stands Wilma the sow with her piglets Ben, Ken, and Molli; Gertrud the doe with her Rehkitz; and the squirrel siblings Tammy and Yammy. They’re bounding about excitedly, thrilled for their very first day of classes.

Fox Lothar from Hocksloch and the lynxess Lava also plan to return for a second year. One might suspect they’re more driven by sheer boredom than a genuine thirst for knowledge.
